In Kitakyushu City, you can enjoy elements of pop culture throughout the city! The city is home to Aruaru City, which promotes pop culture such as anime, manga, games, and idols to the world as well as the Kitakyushu Manga Museum, you can freely read about 70,000 manga. There is even a Galaxy Express 999 special-themed train on the Kitakyushu Urban Monorail! The entire city is filled with Japanese pop culture!

~Experience the Kitakyushu Pop Culture Festival (KPF)!~

Every year, Kitakyushu City hosts one of Kyushu’s largest pop culture events, the Kitakyushu Pop Culture Festival (KPF). Visitors can enjoy stage events featuring popular voice actors and exhibitions of the latest anime and manga.

 A cosplay event is also held at the same time, allowing visitors to enjoy the charms of Japanese pop culture!

1.Kitakyushu Gourmet

Surrounded by the sea, Kitakyushu City offers a wide variety of fresh seafood. Visitors can also taste foods unique to Kitakyushu City, such as Yaki-Udon (grilled udon), which originated in Kitakyushu City, and nukadaki, a local dish made by cooking blue fish in a bed of salted rice bran.

 

2.The Beauty of Kitakyushu’s Nightscape

  There are eleven “Japan Night-view Heritage” sites in the city, such as the views from Mt. Sarakura, Takatoyama Park, and Wakato Ohashi Bridge, offering a wide variety of nightscapes. In particular, from the top of Mt. Sarakura, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire city of Kitakyushu also referred to as “a night view of 10 billion dollars” because it looks like it is covered in jewels.

 

3.Sightseeing Spots

There are several sightseeing spots throughout the city, including Kokura Castle, an iconic symbol of Kitakyushu City and the only castle with a keep in Fukuoka Prefecture. In addition, at Mojiko Retro, visitors can enjoy an atmosphere as if they have stepped back in time. The city’s transportation system is also very well maintained, and accessibility is excellent, with Fukuoka City only a 20-minute ride away by Shinkansen bullet train.
