In 2019, a JET participant who worked as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) at a high school in Kyoto City for three years returned to Philippines. J.CLAIR Singapore, the JET Alumni Association (JETAA), and the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, jointly held a Welcome Reception for the homecoming participants in Manila, Philippines.

At the reception, she shared many things she had learned through the JET Programme. This included learning the Japanese language, how to teach school subjects to students, as well as how to communicate with Japanese teachers and students.

One of the most memorable things she mentioned was that she was able to learn about the Japanese culture and the regional attractions by actively participating in the local community events. And of course, she was able to make a lot of friends there.

Through her recollection, we were reminded of the meaningful interactions that the JET Programme could offer again.

It made us realise that JET participants with first-hand experience of Japan like her can be a valuable link between their home countries and Japan.

We will continue working with them to share the various attractions of Japan with the world.

About the JET Programme:

The JET Programme is one of the largest international exchange programmes in the world that employs foreign young adults to Japan with the purpose of enhancing mutual understanding between Japan and other countries.
