The Kitakyushu International Manga Competition is held with the aim of promoting the spread of manga culture across Japan’s borders and throughout the world.
Applications for the 5th competition will be accepted online from Monday, June 1, 2020, to 2:00 p.m. (Japan Standard Time) on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. Contestants are required to submit an original 4-panel manga. The competition is open to both professionals and amateurs, and to all ages and nationalities. Last year saw 1,140 submissions from 24 countries/regions (including Japan).
The winners will be announced in early November, 2020, and 300,000 yen will be awarded to the Grand Prix winner and 200,000 yen will be awarded to the Overseas Participant Award winner. (See website for other awards)
